Nina Haab has spent several years exploring Alpine emblems: the Devil’s Bridge, the Gotthard Pass and the Nufenen Pass. Mythical places with a double face that sometimes allow, sometimes forbid, passages and exchanges. ONE NATURAL BORDER is the result of a series of film shootings the artist carried out in different seasons, when the passes open and close. The power of the images of raw nature screened onto two large screens is mingled with voice-overs that do not speak the same language. The images give evidence of the idioms that natural frontiers both generated and protected, and which meet here in a ritual that spanned the centuries, placing the common good at the heart of collective action.
