The Border

The Border is a video made on a specific territory of the Canton Ticino. The itinerary starts in Giubiasco, moves up to the Val Morobbia, the Val Maggina, until the Camoghé. Following the way down towards the Denti della Vecchia, Monte Boglia, Monte Brè, and ending in Lugano. This trail is located on the border between Italy and Canton Ticino’s mountains, from north to south.

As Mr. Maretti was born and raised in the Val Morobbia, he has experienced the natural, sociological and cultural transformations of those mountains. Crossing this territory, and thanks to the testimony of Mr. Maretti and his photographic archives, the artist was able to imagine the places she visited.

The project was born in the context of the exhibition Actions, Reactions and Other Stories Nino Baumgartner & Nina Haab, which took place in the off space Sonnenstube, Lugano (CH).
